Korea Develops Mott Insulator as Silicon Substitute
September 09, 2005
ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) in Korea has claimed to have developed a new technology known as Mott insulator that could replace silicon-based semiconductors. Under high-voltage, the non-conducting metal inside Mott insulators can be transitioned to conduct electricity charges at 67 degrees Celsius, a relatively low temperature compared to silicon. Mott insulator thereby addresses heat issues while making chips with five nanometer circuits possible.
